Cantilever racking is an excellent storage solution for warehouses, distribution facilities, building material suppliers, lumber yards and cold storage facilities. It allows maximise use of storage space while keeping your goods organised and easily accessible. There are many benefits to using cantilever shelving, here are just 8 of them:

8 benefits of cantilever racks?

  1. Allow for easy access to stored items, as there are no front or rear posts in the way. This means that forklifts and other warehouse vehicles can quickly and easily move in and out of the aisle, saving time and improving efficiency.
  2. Versatile, as the racking arms support the load and can be set at different angles, depending on the desired requirements.
  3. Store items of various sizes and shapes including long, awkward bulky items.
  4. Efficient use of space, as it provides vertical storage that maximizes the use of your available square footage.
  5. Durable and can withstand heavy loads, making it a long-term investment for your warehouse storage needs.
  6. Improved safety: Cantilever racks are designed to prevent items from falling or tipping over, making them a safer option than traditional shelving units.
  7. Used both indoors and outdoors
  8. Easy to install, easy to reconfigure, and add to should warehouse storage requirements change over time.

What is cantilever shelving?

Cantilever Racking, or Cantilever Shelving, is a type of racking structure designed for storing long and bulky products. . It consists of a heavy-duty steel frame that supports arms cantilevered out from the main structure to create a number of horizontal support levels. It is ideal for storing lengthy items because it does not have vertical posts so it is open and unobstructed. It doesn’t require a front supporting post like in Pallet Racking.

Cantilever Racking is perfect for storing long, bulky items such as timber, pipes, carpet or sheet goods. With its open and unobstructed design, this type of rack provides quick and easy access to your stored materials. Cantilever racks come in various sizes to accommodate different types of storage needs.

If you have a business that requires storing long or bulky items, cantilever racking may be the perfect solution for you.

How do cantilever racks support awkward bulky items?

Cantilever racks are designed to support awkward, bulky items that would otherwise be difficult to store. The racks have arms extending out from the main frame, providing support for the items. The horizontal load-bearing arms are easily adjusted to suit varying sizes and loads. Arms can be anywhere from 600mm long to 150mm long and even longer if required. The longer the arm the more weight can be loaded.

This makes them ideal for warehouse storage, as they can accommodate many items.

Who uses it?

Cantilever racks are ideal for lumber yards, woodworking shops, steel storage, plumbing supply warehouses, and more. These racks allow you to store any length of materials, such as wood, steel, and pipes, as no vertical posts can get in the way. Using cantilever racks gets bulky goods off the warehouse floor, making access to goods easy.  If you need your long goods stored on a shelf, wire decking can be added.

Cantilever is perfect for storing items such as furniture, boats, PVC pipes, iron pipes, structural steel, sheet steel, timber, plumbing pipes, wood, steel pipes, plywood, tubes, wire coils, veneer, drywall or other long raw material.

Any goods that are too long to put on pallet racking. If you have an item that is hard to pick up off standard pallet racking then cantilever racking will be perfect. Your materials will span across the arms and be picked up in the centre by your forklift.

What do they consist of?

Cantilever rack consists of three main components: uprightsarms, and brace sets.

Bases anchor the cantilever rack system to the floor and connect to the unit’s upright acting as the main stabilising component.

Upright Columns connect to the base and have holes in which the cantilever arms are connected to create the storage levels. Uprights can be used for both single and double-sided units. A minimum of two uprights is needed to form a single starter bay.

Cantilever Arms connect to the upright column and support the item.

Braces are used to stabilise the upright columns offering horizontal and diagonal support.

Decking is an option for certain applications offering a solid shelf level to the cantilever storage arms.

Cantilever bays can be joined together for longer lengths. In addition, the bracing is used for joining two or more cantilever bays together.

Who is it ideal for?

Cantilever racking is ideal for timber storage, lumber yards, woodworking shops, steel storage, and plumbing supply warehouses. storing items and materials that are long, bulky, or irregularly shaped, including steel pipes, wooden planks, plastic tubing, carpet rolls, pallets, and more. This is because there are no structural components that interfere with the handling of these items.

For a storage solution for long or bulky items, cantilever racking is the ideal choice. Cantilever racking is fully adjustable and modular, allowing maximum flexibility in configuring the rack to suit individual requirements.  Installed correctly and in the right position, cantilever systems can increase available vertical space and improve access, handling time and overall warehouse productivity without compromising the product’s length or retrieval.
