What is Long Span Shelving
Colby Longspan shelving is lighty-duty shelving ideal for storing small to medium-sized items. Long span shelving allows easy adjustment of storage heights and widths. Multiple bays can be added to extend the length and the height of the storage unit. It is a storage system that can move and change according to your needs. Suitable for use in warehouses, retail shops as well as office shelving and home garage heavy duty shelving.
These are similar to pallet racking systems in the way that they are built but the main difference is that these can only be used to store light and medium sized products while pallet racking is used for a wider range of products, from lightweight to heavy duty materials.
Long span shelving is much cheaper than pallet racking systems and therefore is an alternative for retailers who do not have the floor space and/or the budget for a pallet racking system.

What are the components of longspan shelving?
There are 3 essential components in longspan shelving:
- vertical uprights,
- horizontal beams and
- internal shelves.
Longspan Shelving Vertical Uprights
Uprights are the 2 metal structures that stand at each end of a shelving unit. Uprights can come in several heights and are what additional shelving bays connect to. They are the connecting point for each extension. Available in a width of 55mm the profiles have been designed to meet Australian design standards. The strong section design provides secure and safe storage options.
Longspan Shelving Horizontal Beams
Horizontal Beams connect to each of the uprights and determine the length of the bay. Together with uprights they are the means by which shelving units can be extended.
Our roll formed tubular step beam profile offers excellent compatibility with standard particleboard shelves and 30mm deep Colby steel RET shelves.
Internal Shelves
Internal Shelves sit inside two beams and in between two uprights. Our step beams profile make the shelf more stable.
Modular steel shelves are available in a variety of sizes to suit bay width and frame depth.
All shelves are provided in high quality powder coated finish in attractive APO grey.
Stiffeners can be integrated into shelves to minimise deflection and ensure optimum load bearing capacity.
